In 2025, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will celebrate the franchise's 50th birthday. Since its inception in 1976, many heralded names have donned a Bucs' uniform and many timeless plays on the gridiron have been immortalized in the team's archives. This year, the Bucs will recognize the Top 50 players in team history. Voting will run through May 30. Results will be announced during Training Camp leading up to the start of the 2025 campaign. 151 players are eligible after meeting at least one of the following criteria:

  • Started at least 50 games for the Bucs
  • Top 5 in a major team statistical category
  • Voted to a Pro Bowl or First or Second-Team All Pro
  • Part of an iconic moment in Bucs history

Over the past few weeks during the voting window, we will take a look at each position group of eligible players, beginning with quarterback. The Buccaneers have 13 quarterbacks that are eligible for the Top 50 ranking. Of the group, one is in the Ring Of Honor (Doug Williams), one is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Steve Young) and one holds the record for the most Pro Bowl selections by any player in league annals (Tom Brady).

As a Buccaneer, Tom Brady needed just three seasons to rise to second on the team's all-time touchdown pass list (108, behind Jameis Winston's 121) and third on the passing yardage list (14,643, behind Winston's 19,737 and Vinny Testaverde's 14,820). He also set new single-season franchise records in virtually every category in 2021 when he completed 485 of 719 passes for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns. He finished his tenure as the most accomplished player in NFL history. That begins with his seven Super Bowl championships, which is more than any other NFL franchise owns. The seventh came in his first year with the Buccaneers in 2020, as he led that team to a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. He was selected for more Pro Bowls (15) than any other player at any position in league history. He is a three-time Associated Press NFL MVP selection and a five-time Super Bowl MVP. He is a three-time first-team All-Pro selected, three-time AP MVP and a seven-time Super Bowl Champion, which is not only the most of any player, but it's also more than any franchise.

Doug Williams joined the Bucs as the team's first round draft choice (17th overall) in the 1978 NFL Draft out of Grambling State and took the reins of a team that had won two games combined in its first two NFL seasons. Williams' rookie year led to 10 starts and four wins. He would then start every game over the next four seasons, and in his sophomore season, he engineered one of the most unforeseen success stories of the era when he guided the Bucs to the 1979 NFC Central Division crown and a berth in the NFC Championship Game. Williams also took the Buccaneers to a division title in 1981 and led his team to a record above .500 in three of his final four seasons (1979, 1981-82) as Tampa Bay's quarterback.

Steve Young entered the NFL through the 1984 supplemental draft. The consensus All-American from Brigham Young was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the special draft. Throughout his career, Young threw for 3,000 or more yards six times and had 20-or-more touchdown passes in a season five times and posted a passer rating of 100-or-higher six times. The dual-threat ran for 4,239 yards and scored 43 rushing touchdowns. Young, regarded as one of the most accurate passers in league annals, was named an All-Pro in 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1998 and earned All-NFC honors three times.

Fans can select two players from the group and those who vote will be entered into a sweepstakes to win some amazing prizes. To vote, click on this link. The grand prize winner will receive a $1500 gift card to the team store. 10 runner-ups will score a $100 gift card to the team store.
