CALOOCAN CITY, Nov. 26 (PIA) -- The City Government of Navotas Wednesday sent another wave of donations to the survivors of Typhoon Ulysses in Cagayan Valley.

"We have spent most of this year's budget for our COVID-19 response. However, we are still fortunate to have the capacity to send some assistance to other local government units in dire need of help," Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Navotas sent 500 food packs to John Wesley College, which provides temporary shelter for many affected residents of Tuguegarao City. Each food pack contained five kilos of rice, 13 pieces of assorted canned goods and five sachets of instant coffee.

"A part of the additional aid we sent to Cagayan came from donations that compassionate individuals and companies have given to Navotas. We are thankful to them but since we did not suffer any grave damage, we are extending their help to those who need it most," he said.

The city government also sent food items to the Office of Civil Defense Region 2. These included 100 sacks of rice in 25-kilo packaging; 30 sacks of rice in 50-kilo packaging; 200 boxes of corned beef and beef loaf; 28 boxes and 139 pieces of assorted canned goods; 400 canned sardines; and 30 boxes of instant noodles.

Also donated were 10 boxes of bottled water; 50 pieces of 1-liter bottled water; 300 pieces of 6-liter distilled water; 108 packs of instant coffee; 108 bars of bath soap; 24 bars of laundry soap; 48 sachets of toothpaste; and 63 pieces of toothbrush.

Earlier, Navotas, through its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, helped in the rescue and relief operations in the flood-hit province.

The rescue team also brought with them 50 food packs with five kilos of rice, 13 pieces of assorted canned goods and five sachets of instant coffee; 150 handwoven mats; and 150 blankets. (PIA NCR)
